Primary Motor Symptoms

Resting tremor: - 
Early stages: - 
Slight tremoring of the hand and foot on one side of the body 
- 
Typically, there is tremoring in one finger 
- 
Tremor consists of shaking and usually appears when the individual is relaxed 
- 
Tremor usually stops when the individual engages in muscle movement 
- 
Stress or excitement can enhance the strength of the tremors 
- 
Even though tremors are the most common symptom, not every develops it

Bradykinesia: - 
Reduction of sudden movements, giving the appearance of rigidity and a lack of facial expressivity 
- 
Causes difficulty in repetitive movements 
- 
Unable to take long strides while walking; instead they walk with short shuffles 
- 
Causes difficulty in speech 
 
- 
- 
Rigidity: - 
Muscles are always stiff, decreasing the individual's range of motion 
- 
Tightness in the neck, shoulder and legs 
- 
While walking, the individual does not swing his or her arms 
- 
Can be painful 
 
- 
- 
Postural instability: - 
Tendency to be unstable when standing upright 
- 
Tendency to sway backwards when standing (retropulsion) and results in falling backwards 
- 
Balance problems - have problems with quick movements
